Yesterday I went to Maybank and wanted to open another saving account in oder to have that CHERRY CARD - Maybank VISA Debit Card. Frankly, I never had a card before except my IC and driving license.

Now, I'm legal to have a debit card.Yey! I'm not capable to have a credit card, besides I hate it. Now you wonder I'm almost 20 year old but I can get it when I was 18 right? In 2008, that card was issued by Maybank but it turned out to be a totally bullshit(pardon me). Umpteen complaints from users cuz that card was unusable in PayPal. Until last year-end I guess, the gov had finally threaded another eminent baby-step!!! At last!!! It is usable in PayPal now.

Why I was so specify about that card? Believe me, I have no intention to advertize them. I am a student, I can't afford to have any annual waives (even just only RM9.99) for a debit card. It satisfy my demand so far. For more information go google mybank2u.


Steps to Link Maybank Visa Debit Card with PayPal.
Step One:
Login to your Maybank2u account. Look under Utilities and Click on Maybankcard Secure Online Shopping Registration

Step Two:
Select which card you want to use.
Fill in the MSOS Password (has to be between 6-8 characters) and confirm.
Fill in the Personal Assurance Message. This message will appear when you are asked for your password while shopping online. I think this is to ensure that is Maybank asking for your password and not some phishing site. There must not be any characters other than a-z.
Fill in the Expired Date, CVV, Hint & Answer

Step Three:
Login to paypal with your paypal email & password.
In the My Account tab, click Profile and Add/Edit Credit or Debit Card.
Key in the details of your Maybank Visa Debit Card. Make sure the address is exactly the same as your billing address.

Step Four:
You will then get a verification email to your paypal account saying that you have successfully linked your card. And now all you have to do is add the code.

Step Five:
Okay this is important : Wait for about ONE DAY before doing the following steps**
Login to your Maybank2u again and click on Accounts & Banking, then click on your Account number for your Account Details.
Then click on Debit Card History. You should then see an entry with the word “Paypal”. The code is the 4 numbers before the word Paypal.

Eg: PREAUTH SALE 8921PAYPAL-*EXPUSE DATED 06/08/09
Paypal Code : 8921

**If you check your account too early, you might not see the details of the transaction and would not be able to get the code

Step Six:
Log in to paypal and click on Profile, then Add/Edit Credit or Debit Card.
Click on Enter Paypal Code and enter the code you obtained in Step Five.

Sucess!
And now you have successfully linked your Maybank Visa Debit Card to your Paypal. You will get the refund of USD1.95 to your Paypal account.

HOWEVER during bank account opening....

Tried several times was the worker in the bank, but failed. The worker said my IC can't be used cuz the chip was defective. Now that is wHoLLy aWEsOme! I need to renew my IC before I can open a Maybank account, before I can get a debit card, before I can buy things online, before I can earn some money online...

I had no other option but went to national registration department, get a ticket, waited for 3 quarters (several people only, not workers), got my thumbs fingerprinted, took photos several times, and then got two temporary identity slips.

Now, I have to wait for two weeks (I'm not a Malaccan or KL.er) before I can get a new IC. I promise I'll take good care of that "fragile" MyKad in future.
